If you are an experienced hiker in the UK or just a weekend of Avid, which is very important that the equipment of a map and compass properly, and that become familiar with the route you are planning to follow. This preparation can save your life should be the elements conspiring against us.

Select Card

Choosing the right plan is important. Do not assume the card will do. Too few details and you may find it difficult to identify any recognizable landmark, much detail and can be mistaken. Understand your OS Map

1) Align map in the direction you are facing. Make sure that the reference points on the map corresponds to what is seen in front of you.

2) Adjust the direction of the arrow of the compass to point north on the map.

3) Using the guidelines of your card, the compass housing to reflect the differences between north and magnetic north network.

4) Remove the compass on the map and start walking.

NOTE: It is important to use common sense to verify that you step in the right direction and to check their bearings after each shift.

Collation fast

It is very easy to get lost on the road. It happens every day in the UK. People expect that you will never miss, but thousands of people each year. The Preparation is the most important factor to ensure that you are not one of them.

Remember to bring a jacket and a fleece (or an insulating jacket). Prognosis is good for hot weather, but the climate in the UK invariably change in an instance. Also, be sure to wear appropriate footwear. Pack plenty of fluids and food for the journey and do not forget your map and compass!

OS Explorer is the most detailed map the folded paper available on the Ordnance Survey.
