Airplane Patch
Can anyone help me with this problem?
The pilot of an airplane traveling 180 kmh want to remove the supplies to flood victims located on a parcel of 160 m below the ground. The supplies should be deleted few seconds before the aircraft is directly overhead? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Assuming no wind resistance, we can apply the formula s = ut + 0.5at ^ 2 where s is the distance, u is the initial velocity, a is the acceleration and t is time. S is the distance between the aircraft and the ground, a is the acceleration of gravity and u is the initial velocity downward. Assuming that the supplies fell and not simply thrown u = 0. The aircraft speed is not affected by the time it takes the package to fall if the plane flies horizontally. This gives s = 0.5at ^ 2 and T = Sqrt (2s / a) = sqrt (2 * 160 / 9.8) = 5.7 seconds
